Maybe you've overheard conversations about it at dinner parties as guests stifl e giggles and someone declares: "hatever next?"But the truth of the matter is, gynaecological surgery is happening in the UK – and often, for more than aesthetic reasons. One of the main reasons organisations like nationwide cosmetic surgery groups are performing hundreds of vaginoplasty operations every year, is to repair the damage caused by labour or trauma and to help patients regain the sexual sensation they had prior to childbirth.
Post-menopausal women can also experience a loss of tone and some will often have surgery for the same reason.
Surgery on the vagina is generally performed to either tighten the vaginal muscles (vaginoplasty) or to reduce the size of the labia minora (labiaplasty), the lips surrounding the opening to the vagina.
